Spirit Win Twice as Offense Goes Crazy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – The OUAZ softball team got hot at the plate on Friday in picking up a pair of wins at the Tucson Invitational. After defeating Jarvis Christian 7-3 to start the day, OUAZ came back to defeat Presentation 24-0 in five innings to cap the day.

The two wins have the Spirit at 14-4 on the season.

GAME 1: OUAZ 7, Jarvis Christian 3
OUAZ recorded 10 hits in the first game, with Katelyn Chambers and Charlene De Anda posting two each. Laurynn De Anda went 1 for 3 with a sac fly and three RBIs.

Cori Turner earned the win, and Phoebe Popplewell picked up her second save.

GAME 2: OUAZ 24, Presentation 0
The Spirit offense went off in the day's second game, scoring 12 runs in the first inning and then nine in the second. They recorded 22 hits, including six doubles.

Angelina Mercado finished 3 for 5 with two doubles and seven RBIs. Rachel Stockseth had a pair of hits and four runs knocked in. Samantha Miller was 3 for 3.

OUAZ set the program record for runs, hits, doubles, and RBIs in the win. A total of 14 different players had at least one hit, and they drew 10 walks.

Alexandra McCutcheon dominated in the circle for the Spirit, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced in three perfect innings. Charlene De Anda pitched the final two innings – her first in the circle for OUAZ – and allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.

The Spirit will look to continue the momentum on Saturday when they face Aquinas at 12:15 p.m. and No. 9 Olivet Nazarene at 2:30 p.m.
