Softball Game Notes -- Week 9

The first half of the conference season will come to an end this weekend for the OUAZ softball team as they host a pair of doubleheaders. The Spirit opens the homestand against Menlo on Friday at 2 p.m. On Saturday, they welcome No. 23 William Jessup to Surprise for games that begin at 10 a.m.

OUAZ returns home with a 20-10 overall record, and they are tied for third in the GSAC standings with a 4-4 record in conference play. The Spirit is 10-4 at home, and they have won four straight home games.

The Spirit ranks second in the GSAC with a .314 batting average and .393 on-base percentage while ranking third in slugging percentage (.445). OUAZ also sits second in the league in runs per game (5.87) and third in hits per game (7.90). They have scored in double figures seven times and had 10-plus hits in a game 11 times.

Laurynn De Anda is the team leader in runs (22), doubles (8), home runs (4), and RBIs (22). Her 12 extra-base hits are tied for sixth-most in the GSAC. De Anda has eight games with multiple hits and four with multiple RBIs.

Samantha Miller leads the team with 31 hits, and she carries a .330/.388/.436 slash line. Miller has eight multi-hit games – including four games with three hits – and she has 19 runs scored and 13 RBIs.

Katelyn Chambers leads all Spirit qualifiers with a .360 batting average. She has 27 hits with seven multi-hit games. Chambers has driven in 12 runs with a team-best five multi-RBI outings.

Mashayla Beltran is batting .352 with 14 RBIs. Breanna Gonzalez is at .282 with eight extra-base hits, including two home runs. Andraya Rhinehart has a .407 batting average with 24 hits, 13 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. Charlene De Anda has driven in 18 runs.

OUAZ is third in the GSAC with its 2.62 ERA while posting a 1.32 WHIP. They are holding the opposition to a .263 batting average while allowing 7.05 hits per seven innings. The staff is third in the GSAC by averaging 5.81 strikeouts per seven innings.

Alexandra McCutcheon leads the Spirit with an 11-5 record and 2.06 ERA. While placing fourth in the conference in ERA, McCutcheon is third in the league in wins, strikeouts (100), strikeouts per game (7.09), and innings (98.2).

Phoebe Popplewell has a 6-4 record with a 2.37 ERA. She has thrown 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings while winning her last three decisions. Cori Turner has gone 3-1 with a 4.90 ERA in 30.0 innings.
