Softball Game Notes -- Week 8

Golden State Athletic Conference play continues for the OUAZ softball team as they make the season's first trip out of Arizona for two doubleheaders. The Spirit begins its trip in Fullerton, California, against Hope International on Friday in a rematch of last season's GSAC Championship Series. OUAZ then plays at No. 22 Vanguard on Saturday in Costa Mesa.

OUAZ heads out on the trip at 18-8 overall and winners of four straight. They are 2-2 in GSAC games to sit tied for this in the conference standings. The Spirit is 4-0 on the road and 8-4 in all games away from home.

The Spirit ranks second in the GSAC with a .332 batting average and .412 on-base percentage while ranking third in slugging percentage (.475). OUAZ also sits second in the league in runs per game (6.65) and hits per game (8.62). They have scored in double figures seven times and had 10-plus hits in a game 11 times.

Mashayla Beltran leads the Spirit and ranks fourth in the GSAC with her .410 batting average. Beltran is riding an 8-game hitting streak, during which she is 13 for 25 (.520). Beltran has three doubles and 14 RBIs.

Samantha Miller leads the team with 30 hits, and she carries a .361/.470/.418 slash line. Miller has eight multi-hit games – including four games with three hits – and she has 19 runs scored and 13 RBIs.

Laurynn De Anda is the team leader in runs (21), doubles (6), home runs (4), and RBIs (21). Her 10 extra-base hits are tied for sixth-most in the GSAC. De Anda has seven games with multiple hits and four with multiple RBIs.

Katelyn Chambers is batting .377 with 26 hits and 19 runs scored. Breanna Gonzalez is at .313 with two home runs. Andraya Rhinehart has a .468 batting average with 22 hits, 12 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. Charlene De Anda has driven in 17 runs.

OUAZ is second in the GSAC with its 2.56 ERA while posting a 1.34 WHIP. They are holding the opposition to a .269 batting average while allowing 7.31 hits per seven innings. The staff is third in the GSAC by averaging 6.13 strikeouts per seven innings.

Alexandra McCutcheon leads the Spirit with an 11-3 record and 1.89 ERA. McCutcheon is second in the GSAC with 91 strikeouts and third at 7.46 strikeouts per seven. She is second in wins, third in innings, and fourth in ERA.

Phoebe Popplewell is 4-4 with two saves and a 2.92 ERA in 50.1 innings. She has recorded 36 strikeouts with a .254 opponents batting average. Cori Turner has gone 3-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 29.0 innings.
