Men's Volleyball Notes -- Week 8

The No. 2 ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team has a vital slate of three matches on the docket this week. OUAZ will begin by making a trip across the valley to play at No. 12 Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday night at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The Spirit then heads to California to play at No. 4 Vanguard on Friday before playing at Hope International on Saturday.

OUAZ sits at 20-1 on the season, and they have clinched a spot in the GSAC Tournament with a 7-0 record in conference matches. The current 15-match winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest in NAIA history. The Spirit is 6-1 on the road.

The week begins with OUAZ ranking sixth in the NAIA with an average of 12.53 kills per set, and they are second nationally with a .656 attack percentage. The team has hit .300 or better 13 times this season and been above .400 six times. They are 19-0 this season when hitting at least .200 in a match.

OUAZ is third in the NAIA with an average of 2.74 blocks per set. That average leads the GSAC, and they are also the conference leader in solo blocks (58), block assists (289), and total blocks (203) while ranking in the top 10 in the NAIA in each category. The Spirit has posted 10-plus blocks in a match 10 times. The 203 total blocks have already set a new program record for blocks in a season.

Jordan Moses ranks in the NAIA top 100 in 11 statistical categories. He is 35th in the country in kills per set (3.32), 33rd in attack percentage (.279), and 26 in points per set (4.1). Moses has been in double figures in kills 13 times this season and 25 times in his OUAZ career. He also adds 1.83 digs, 0.34 aces, and 0.80 blocks per set while recording four double-doubles.

Emery Outin is second in the GSAC and ninth in the country with his .322 attack percentage. He averages 2.92 kills per set, which is good for 50th in the nation, and Outin averages 1.70 digs per set.

The two-headed monster of Colin Donisthorpe and Brenden Hardt spark the Spirit's blocking totals. Donisthorpe leads the GSAC and is second in the NAIA at 1.33 blocks per set. His 81 total blocks are tops in the conference and a new OUAZ single-season record. Hardt is second in the conference and 10th nationally at 1.15 blocks per set.

Tatum Gray averages 2.17 digs per set to rank seventh in the conference and 44th nationally. He has 141 total digs – fourth-most in the GSAC – and has been in double figures six times.

Nicho Calles is 17th in the NAIA by averaging 9.36 assists per set.
