OUAZ Sweeps Menlo to Run Winning Streak to 15

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The record winning streak from No. 2 OUAZ men's volleyball reached 15 as the Spirit swept No. 5 Menlo 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

By posting the 33-31, 25-17, 25-19 victory, OUAZ (20-1, 7-0 GSAC) recorded the first 20-win season in program history. The Spirit has won 15 consecutive sets and 18 of 19.

On Saturday, things started slowly for the Spirit as they fell behind in the first set, 18-13. After rallying to tie the set at 20-20, it took 16 ties and six lead changes before OUAZ won the highest-scoring set in program history 33-31.

Menlo (15-4, 4-3 GSAC) fell behind early in set two before pulling even at 12-12. The Spirit countered with six straight points to spark a 13-5 run to close out the set. They would make another run in the third set, turning an 11-11 tie into a 19-14 advantage that was enough to complete the sweep.

OUAZ finished the match with a 48-39 edge in kills, and they hit .362 while holding the Oaks to .204. The Spirit started with a .306 percentage in the first set before going .429 and .417 in sets two and three, respectively.

Emery Outin led three Spirit players in double figures with 13 kills. Colin Donisthorpe hit .714 with 10 kills, with Jordan Moses also recording 10 kills.

In slowing the Menlo attack, OUAZ totaled eight blocks and 34 digs. Moses tallied seven blocks, with Donisthorpe adding five. Outin joined Tyler Gardenhire, and Tatum Gray for the team lead with eight digs apiece.

Konrad Stoklosinski led Menlo with 12 kills.

OUAZ will step out of conference play on Tuesday as they head across town to Mesa for a 6 p.m. match at No. 12 Benedictine Mesa.
