Men's Volleyball Notes -- Week 2

STORYLINES
Coming off winning its second NCCAA National Championship, the 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team returns to action this weekend with four matches at the Pirate Invitational. The Spirit will begin the event on Friday with matches against No. 8 Missouri Valley and No. 4 Park. They will then face Culver-Stockton and Mount Mercy on Saturday.

OUAZ travels to Parkville, Missouri, with a 4-0 record on the season. They have gone 3-0 in neutral court matches and 1-0 in road matches. The Spirit is 9-1 over the past 10 matches dating back to last season.

The Spirit will enter Friday's matches looking for its first-ever win over a ranked opponent. In the four years of the program's history, OUAZ is 0-12 against teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches Poll, including 0-8 against teams ranked in the top five. Last season, the team went 0-4 against nationally-ranked foes.

The Spirit has started the season with four consecutive sweeps and recorded its second-longest set winning streak in program history. The team won 15 straight sets during a stretch during the 2019 season.

The team will enter the weekend leading the NAIA with its .416 attack percentage. The Spirit is currently the only team in the NAIA above .400, and they have been above .347 in all four matches of the season. They hit .810 in the win over Maranatha Baptist which is the highest hitting percentage by a team in any collegiate match, according to published records.

OUAZ also leads the NAIA by averaging 3.08 service aces per set. They have recorded at least seven aces in every match this season while twice reaching double figures. Entering the season, an OUAZ team had only posted 10-plus aces in a match six times.

Jordan Moses leads the Spirit and ranks 31st in the NAIA by averaging 3.14 kills per set. Moses recorded 12 kills in the championship match of the NCCAA Invitational. He is hitting .349 through the team's first weekend of action to rank 11th in the nation.

Chase Marcy is currently fourth in the country with an average of 1.29 aces per set, while Quaid King is 12th at 0.75.

Colin Donisthorpe ranks 10th in the NAIA by posting 1.22 blocks per set. He was named the NCCAA Invitational Most Outstanding Player.
