Winning Streak Snapped as Embry-Riddle Sweeps Doubleheader

TUCSON, Ariz. – The OUAZ softball team saw its six-game winning streak end as Embry-Riddle swept a doubleheader on Monday at Lincoln Park. Embry-Riddle won the first game 3-1 and took game two 10-0.

Game 1: Embry-Riddle 3, OUAZ 1

OUAZ went ahead in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Charlene De Anda in the opener. Embry countered with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth, with the first being a go-ahead 2-run shot.

Alexandra McCutcheon (6-1) had to settle with her first loss of the season after allowing just three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.

The Spirit tallied just four hits in the game, including a double from Briana Gonzalez.

Game 2: Embry-Riddle 10, OUAZ 0 (6 innings)

OUAZ came up empty in 18 at-bats in the second game as Vanessa Brink pitched a perfect game for the Eagles. While the Spirit offense generated nothing, ERAU totaled 12 hits to score 10 runs in a six-inning victory.

Phoebe Popplewell (2-2) gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings. Cori Turner went four innings and allowed seven runs (three earned) on nine hits.

OUAZ will look to bounce back on Thursday when they play a doubleheader with Tabor at Lincoln Field. Game one is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
