Softball Game Notes -- Week 5

Having won a program-record six straight games, the OUAZ softball team is set to play four consecutive games at two different locations against Embry-Riddle. The team will play a doubleheader in Prescott on Saturday before playing the second doubleheader in Tucson on Monday.

OUAZ enters the series with a 10-2 overall record and having twice won by run-rule. The Spirit is 4-0 on the road, and they have won five straight as the road team dating back to last season.

The Spirit currently leads the GSAC in batting average (.352), on-base percentage (.436), and slugging (.524). They are scoring 7.83 runs per game by averaging 9.25 hits per contest. Of their 38 extra-base hits, 28 are doubles with six home runs.

Samantha Miller is batting a team-best .405 with 17 hits, six doubles, and 10 RBIs. She has five multi-hit games, with three of those featuring three hits. MIller has driven in a run in three of the past four games.

Katelyn Chambers has 14 hits with a .400 batting average. She is tied for the team lead with five stolen bases while scoring nine runs with a triple and a homer.

Mashayla Beltran is riding a six-game hitting streak, and she is now batting .375 with 12 hits and 11 runs. Beltran has recorded a hit in 10 of the 12 games this season with two doubles and five RBIs.

OUAZ has a 2.36 earned run average in the circle, ranking them second in the GSAC. The Spirit is tied for 10th in the NAIA with three shutouts. They are limiting the opposition to a .254 batting average while posting 6.45 strikeouts per seven innings.

Alexandra McCutcheon leads the Spirit with a 6-0 record and 1.24 ERA. Those six consecutive wins are the most consecutive decisions won in program history. McCutcheon is second in the GSAC in wins, third in strikeouts (45), and fourth in innings pitched (39.2). Her 7.94 strikeouts per game are third in the league.

Cori Turner has a 2-1 record and 3.27 ERA. Phoebe Popplewell is 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA, and she is fourth in the GSAC at 6.58 strikeouts per game.
