Season Ends with 73-60 Loss in GSAC Tournament First Round

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The OUAZ women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 73-60 loss against San Diego Christian in the First Round of the 2022 GSAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night at The MacArthur Center.

OUAZ – the tournament's No. 9 seed – ends its season with a 6021 record.

After a competitive first half saw No. 8 seed San Diego Christian (9-18) take a 31-27 lead into the intermission, the Hawks outscored the Spirit 26-8 in the third quarter. That outburst featured a 22-2 run and created enough separation for SDCC to advance to the quarterfinals.

Despite the deficit and the season winding down, OUAZ battled throughout the fourth quarter, and behind a 12-0 run, the Spirit would get as close as 12 in the final minute.

OUAZ finished the game shooting 30 percent from the floor and just 1 of 16 from beyond the arc. San Diego Christian shot 42.9 percent while making 20 of 22 at the foul line. The Spirit scored 38 points in the paint and added 17 points from 12 offensive rebounds.

Landyn Lovelady led OUAZ with 14 points, with Makayla Hothaus adding 10. Jada Golding scored nine points and added a pair of assists, Cierra Kiser had seven rebounds.
