Winning Streak Halted as No. 7 ACU Pulls Away Late

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's basketball team was hanging around at No. 7 Arizona Christian on Saturday before a late surge from the home team saw them pull away for a 77-59 win in the regular season finale for each team.

While they trailed for most of the day, OUAZ (20-9, 10-8 GSAC) had the game within 57-52 with 7:48 to play in the second half. Arizona Christian (27-3, 15-3) proceeded to end the game with a 20-7 run that clinched them the GSAC regular season title and snapped the Spirit's seven-game winning streak.

OUAZ shot just 35.7 percent and didn't make a field goal over the final 3:13 of the game. They allowed ACU to shoot 53.6 percent with a 44-14 advantage in paint points.

Josiah De'laCerda scored 17 points to lead three Spirit players in double figures. He had seven during a 13-3 OUAZ run in the second half, which got them to that 57-52 deficit.

Kam Malbrough added 16 points and three assists. Kolten Hitt had 10 points and three steals. Devin Collins led the team with nine rebounds.

ACU had four players score in double figures, with Dennis Flowers III leading the team with 14 points.

OUAZ now gets set for its first-ever appearance at the GSAC Tournament, where they are the No. 4 seed. They open on Thursday at 1 p.m. (AZ) against No. 5 seed Vanguard at Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, California.
