Softball Game Notes -- Week 4

STORYLINES
Riding a four-game winning streak and off to its best start in program history, the OUAZ softball team is back in action on Wednesday when the Spirit hosts Benedictine Mesa in a doubleheader at Willow Canyon High School.

OUAZ will enter Wednesday at 8-2 on the season, which is the team's best record through 10 games in program history. They have gone 4-2 at home to this point. The Spirit swept doubleheaders at Park Gilbert and Benedictine Mesa last week.

The Spirit is batting .330 as a team to rank second in the GSAC, and their .903 OPS is good for 29th in the NAIA. The Spirit's 71 runs scored are the most in the NAIA, while the team ranks 25th in the country by scoring 7.10 runs per game. They have 30 extra-base hits, including 21 doubles and five home runs.

Heliana Bueno is ninth in the GSAC with her .400 batting average, and she is tied for second in the league with 11 RBIs. She has tallied 10 hits, with seven of them doubles. Those seven doubles are tied for the most in the NAIA.

Katelyn Chambers is batting .393 with 11 hits and five RBIs. She leads the Spirit with four stolen bases and is tied with Beuno for the team lead with eight runs scored.

Samantha Miller has a team-leading 12 hits for a .343 batting average. She has recorded a hit in seven of the 10 games played with three multi-hit games,

OUAZ has a 2.09 earned run average in the circle, which ranks them third in the GSAC. The Spirit is tied for sixth in the NAIA with two shutouts. They are limiting the opposition to a .263 batting average while posting 6.48 strikeouts per seven innings. 

Alexandra McCutcheon leads the Spirit with a 5-0 record and 1.41 ERA. Those five consecutive wins are tied for the most consecutive decisions won in program history. McCutcheon is second in the GSAC in wins, strikeouts (42), and innings pitched (34.2). Her 8.48 strikeouts per game are third in the league, and her .238 opponents' average is seventh.

Phoebe Popplewell is 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Cori Turner has gone 1-1 with a 2.21 ERA.
