Men's Volleyball Notes -- Week 4

STORYLINES
Off to its best start in program history, No. 9 OUAZ men's volleyball will play three road matches this week, including a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference matches. The Spirit will open GSAC play on Wednesday in Glendale against Arizona Christian. They then head to California to face Cal Luthern on Friday and No. 12 The Master's on Saturday.

OUAZ heads back to the road with a 9-1 overall record and winners of four straight outings. They have gone 1-1 in road tilts, and 7-1 in all matches played away from Faith Arena.

With its win over No. 6 Benedictine Mesa last Tuesday, OUAZ is now 2-1 this season when facing a nationally ranked opponent. The Spirit entered the season 0-12 all-time against ranked opposition before defeating then-No. 8 Missouri Valley on February 4 to snap that streak.

The Spirit enters the road swing as the NAIA leader in attacker percentage by hitting .340. They have hit above .300 seven times and been above .400 three times. OUAZ hit .810 in the win over Maranatha Baptist on January 22, which is the highest hitting percentage by a team in any collegiate match all-time, according to published records. They are 9-0 this season when hitting at least .200 in a match. OUAZ gets to that percentage by averaging 11.86 kills per set, where they rank second in the GSAC and 17th in the NAIA.

OUAZ is also the top blocking team in the country, with an average of 2.71 blocks per set. They lead the GSAC in block assists (146) and total blocks (95) while ranking in the top 10 in the NAIA in each category. The Spirit has posted 10-plus blocks in a match four times, and they have at least eight blocks in each of the past six outings.

Jordan Moses leads the Spirit with 90 kills, and he is fourth in the GSAC and 28th nationally in averaging 3.33 kills per set. Moses has been in double figures in kills five times this season and 17 times in his OUAZ career. His .319 attack percentage ranks third in the conference and 19th nationally. Moses set a career-high with 21 kills in the win over Benedictine Mesa. He currently ranks in the NAIA top 100 in nine statistical categories.

Emery Outin leads the GSAC and sits ninth in the country with his .343 attack percentage. He averages 2.52 kills per set, which is good for 71st in the nation.

Brenden Hardt is the conference leader at 1.30 blocks per set – third in the NAIA –while Colin Donisthorpe is second in the GSAC and fourth in the NAIA by averaging 1.28 blocks per set.
