Spirit Upset No. 4 William Jessup for Season’s Signature Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Six players scored in double figures as the OUAZ men's basketball team checked another box in the program's resume with a 78-62 win over No. 4 William Jessup on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (19-8, 10-7 GSAC) went on a 24-5 scoring run during a six-minute span of the first half to open a 28-11 lead. William Jessup (24-4, 12-4) would only get as close as eight the rest of the day, and the Spirit would extend its advantage to 23 late in the second half.

While they only shot 39.7 percent from the field, the Spirit grabbed 17 offensive rebounds for 19 second chance points and built a 38-20 advantage in the paint. OUAZ also turned the 15 Warriors' turnovers into 22 points and committed nine turnovers themselves.

Josiah De'laCerda and Kolten Hitt had 15 points apiece to lead the Spirit's balanced attack. They each had two makes from beyond the arc to account for four of the team's seven made threes. De'laCerda added 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.

Devin Collins led all players with 14 rebounds to go with 11 points for his third double-double. It's the first time the Spirit had two double-doubles in the same game since January 22, 2021. Kam Malbrough added 12 points and four assists, while Keshawn Bruner and Jayce Catchings had 10 points.

Those 17 offensive rebounds helped the Spirit to a 47-33 edge on the boards. They also added 13 assists and seven steals.

Jessup shot 36.4 percent with 10 threes. Cashemin Williams led the Warriors with 19 points.

OUAZ has now guaranteed at least a top-five finish in the GSAC standings, and they will not have to play a Wednesday game at the GSAC Tournament.

The Spirit will play a non-conference game at Embry-Riddle on Wednesday in Prescott.
