Winning Streak to Five with 75-66 Home Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's basketball team ran its winning streak to a season-long five with a 75-66 win over Menlo on Thursday night at Faith Arena.

Trailing 40-35 at halftime, OUAZ (18-8, 9-7 GSAC) held Menlo (14-10, 6-9) to only 26 points in the second half to complete the season sweep of the Oaks. The Spirit remained on fourth place in the GSAC standings and moved one step closer to avoiding a Wednesday game at the conference tournament later this month.

OUAZ trailed 46-41 with 15:40 to play when they went on a 10-0 run to take the lead, which they never relinquished. The scoring run sparked a 22-7 run over seven minutes, 32 seconds to extend the advantage to 63-53 at the 8:08 mark.

Josiah De'laCerda led all scorers with 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting. His ninth 20-point scoring effort of the season included three made triples and five rebounds. Jayce Catchings added 11 points off the bench, with Kolten Hitt scoring 10.

OUAZ turned 11 Menlo turnovers into 16 points while scoring 12 fast break points. They limited the Oaks' chances by committing just eight turnovers.

Corey Le'aupepe scored 19 points to lead the Oaks.

The Spirit will play its final home game of the season on Saturday when they host No. 4 William Jessup in Faith Arena at 1 p.m.
