Bruner Sparks Late Run as Spirit Down Rams

SURPRISE, Ariz. – In its final tune-up before starting conference play, the OUAZ men's basketball team went on a late run to defeat Texas Wesleyan 81-74 on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

Despite leading for most of the second half, OUAZ (3-1) trailed 72-69 with 3:11 to play. Keshawn Bruner then took over with a pair of highlight reel dunks on consecutive possessions and then a three from the wing for a personal 7-0 that ignited Faith Arena.
Kolten Hitt made a pair of free throws and added a breakaway dunk of his own to cap an 11-0 Spirit run that closed the door on Texas Wesleyan (1-2).

The Spirit finished the game shooting 53.4 percent from the field by scoring 50 points in the paint. They held the Rams to 40.8 percent shooting and forced them into 18 turnovers for 16 Spirit points.

Bruner led all players with 20 points by making 8 of 14 shots with a pair of threes. He added seven rebounds and five assists. Josiah De'laCerda added 18 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Hitt had 15 points and four steals.

Texas Wesleyan stayed in the game by shooting 12 of 28 from beyond the arc and grabbing 12 offensive rebounds. Peyton Sallee hit five threes and finished with 16 points.

OUAZ will open GSAC play on Thursday at The Master's in Santa Clarita, Calif.
