OUAZ Inches Closer to Postseason by Sweeping Menlo

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Needing to win as many matches as possible to earn a spot in the GSAC Tournament, the OUAZ women's volleyball team took its first step with a 3-0 sweep of Menlo on Friday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (14-11, 9- GSAC) was able to pull out the 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 victory in a match that featured 26 ties and 11 lead changes. The Spirit posted a .292 attack percentage – its highest in a conference match this season – with 44 kills to secure the crucial victory.

The efficient attack started in the first set, where the Spirit hit .355 with 14 kills. After falling behind early in the second set, they were able to turn things around behind 17 kills on .275 hitting. The third set saw OUAZ tally 13 kills on .257 hitting to complete the sweep.

Livia De Pra led the Spirit with 15 kills and 11 digs for a third straight double-double. Rylie Henige added 12 kills while hitting .611. Her percentage was the highest by a Spirit player this season and fourth-best in program history.

OUAZ limited Menlo (12-11, 8-7) to 38 kills with a .171 attack percentage. The Oaks never hit better than their .250 in the first set. The Spirit slowed the visitors by recording 43 digs and five blocks.

Kenzie Kuxhaus had a match-high 15 digs, while Jessica Pearce posted four blocks.

The win moves the Spirit into fifth in the GSAC standings with two matches to play. They can help their tournament chances again on Saturday when they host William Jessup at 1 p.m.
