No. 24 Spirit Use Three Second-Half Goals to Down Hawks

SURPRISE, Ariz. – While they didn't score in the first half, the 24th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team scored three times after halftime to earn a 3-1 win over San Diego Christian on Thursday night at Spirit Field.

With the game scoreless at the break, OUAZ (9-3-1, 4-1-0 GSAC) broke through just 65 seconds into the second half when Titouan Desveaux headed home a corner kick from Tinashe Simbo for the 1-0 lead on his seventh goal of the season.

The lead reached 2-0 in the 60th minute when Jamaine Turner buried a penalty shot after the San Diego Christian (4-5-4, 1-2-1) keeper was called for a foul in the box. The Hawks pulled one back in the 74th minute when Ruben Aguiniga blasted a shot from the top of the box past the Spirit keeper.

Turner made sure the Spirit came out with the win by posting his second goal of the game – and seventh of the season – in the 81st minute. It came after Desveaux poked a loose ball in the box to Turner, who was alone in front.

OUAZ dictated play much of the night and finished with a 12-3 advantage in total shots while putting seven of those chances on goal. Turner and Desveaux combined for seven shots and five shots on goal.

Adam Salama picked up his seventh win of the season in goal.

The Spirit remains atop the GSAC table with the win and their 12 points. They close out the home schedule on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Vanguard.
