Spirit Handle Hawks to Sweep Season Series

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Behind four players in double figures, the OUAZ men's basketball team defeated San Diego Christian 86-64 on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena for an eighth straight win over the Hawks.

OUAZ (15-8, 6-7 GSAC) shot 48.5 percent from the field to record consecutive wins for the first time in nearly a month. The Spirit added 10 of 27 from beyond the arc, and they scored 17 points from 16 offensive rebounds.

Josiah De'laCerda followed his 22 points and 18 rebounds perforce on Thursday with a game-high 24 points on Saturday. De'laCerda was 10 of 16 from the field with three makes from deep and six rebounds.

Jayce Catchings made four of his five 3-point attempts and finished with 17 points off the bench. Kam Malbrough added 16 points and six assists, with Keshawn Bruner scoring 12 points.

OUAZ led 39-33 with 2:04 to play before halftime before closing the half on a 10-0 run. The Spirit opened the second half with a 12-5 burst to build a 21-point advantage. San Diego Christian (5-17, 3-10) wouldn't get closer than 15 the rest of the afternoon.

The Spirit forced 16 turnovers which they converted into 20 points. They only committed eight turnovers themselves – just one in the first half – while building a 42-38 advantage in the paint. Those 16 offensive rebounds helped OUAZ to a 42-30 edge in total rebounds.

Josh O'Campo scored 22 points to lead the Hawks.

OUAZ will spend next weekend in California for a pair of GSAC games starting in Costa Mesa on Thursday to play Vanguard.
