Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

De'laCerda Leads Spirit to Key Road Win at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – Josiah De'laCerda scored a career-high 33 points, and the OUAZ men's basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit to pick up an 89-81 win at Menlo College on Saturday afternoon to close out the first half of Golden State Athletic Conference play.

De'laCerda tallied the first 30-point scoring effort of the season by an OUAZ (13-6, 4-5 GSAC) player on 10 of 12 from the field and 11 of 13 at the line. He added both of his attempts from beyond the arc and seven rebounds.

Trailing 44-35 at halftime, the Spirit came out of the break by making its first six shots to spark a 14-2 run. With the game tied at 49-49 with 14:53 remaining, OUAZ responded with an 11-2 run to take the lead that they never gave back.

Kolten Hitt scored six points during the decisive run as the team converted all four of its shots while forcing Menlo (13-5, 5-4) into a pair of turnovers. In the final minute, the Spirit closed the win by making 10 of 11 at the foul line.

OUAZ shot 56.3 percent from the field for the game, including 72.7 percent in the second half. The 30 made free throws are tied for second-most in program history, while the 90.9 percent from the line is the third-best mark in team history.

The efficient shooting performance helped counter the Oaks' 50.8 percent shooting and 10 threes. The Spirit added a 38-30 edge in paint points, and they scored 18 points from 12 Menlo turnovers.

Hitt ended the game with 14 points by overcoming one make on seven shots in the first half. He scored 12 points after intermission on 4 of 6 shooting while adding three assists and two steals. Keshawn Bruner finished with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

OUAZ's nine turnovers are just the second time they were in single digits this season. They held a 27-26 edge on the boards to outrebound its opponent for the 15th time this season.

Corey Le'aupepe led Menlo with 21 points.

OUAZ returns to the road for a pair of games next weekend, starting at Westmont on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. (AZ).
