Road Trip Begins with 74-71 Loss at No. 4 William Jessup

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The OUAZ men's basketball team began its four-game road stretch with a 74-71 loss at No. 4 William Jessup on Thursday night at Warrior Arena. With the loss, OUAZ (12-6, 3-5 GSAC) is now 0-5 in one-possession games this season.

OUAZ trailed by 11 with 2:42 to play in the game before outscoring William Jessup (19-1, 7-1) down the stretch 10-2 to be in a position to tie the game. The Spirit had the ball with 0.4 seconds to play, needing to go the length of the floor but committed a turnover.

The 68.2 percent shooting in the second half allowed the Spirit to keep the upset within reach. They ended the game at 55.3 percent shooting, but that couldn't overcome the 5 of 14 from three and 14 of 26 (53.8%) at the foul line.

Josiah De'laCerda led the way for the Spirit with 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting. He scored nine points during the first eight minutes of the second half to keep the team within striking distance. De'laCerda also tied for the team lead with six rebounds to go with three steals.

After Marcus Williams hit consecutive threes for the Spirit to put them in front 51-48 with 10:40 to play in the game, William Jessup went on a 24-10 run over the next eight minutes to build that 11-point cushion. The Warriors forced the Spirit into four turnovers during the run while making 9 of 11 shots with a pair of triples.

In total, the game featured nine ties and three lead changes.

The Warriors also cleaned up the glass for a 40-27 edge in rebounds with 17 offensive boards for 15 points. They added 24 points from the 16 Spirit turnovers and held a 40-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Devin Collins added 13 points and six rebounds for the Spirit, with Keshawn Bruner scoring 12 points.

The Spirit now travels to Atherton, California, where they will face Menlo College on Saturday at 3 p.m. (AZ).
