Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

OUAZ Takes Down No. 17 MidAmerica Nazarene

The OUAZ men's soccer team went to Olathe, Kan. in search of a program defining win, and got exactly what they were looking for on Labor Day afternoon. The Spirit scored twice late in the final minutes to take home a 2-0 win over 17th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene on Monday, the team's third win over a ranked NAIA opponent.

The Spirit were entrenched in a battle all game long, holding off a plethora of opportunities from the Pioneers. MNU finished the game with seven shots on target, and 11 shot attempts overall.

Nathan Head finally broke the scoreless game with a rebound goal, putting the ball home after an excellent first shot by Mark Lydford. Then the Spirit turned an unsuccessful free kick by the Pioneers into a goal, moving the ball quickly up the field where Tom Cohen broke loose and gave OUAZ a two-goal lead.

Angel Ramirez was excellent again, and did so when it mattered most. Six of his seven saves came in the second half, and he earned his fourth shutout of the season. Every win the Spirit have this season has come via the shutout.

OUAZ will not have a lot of time to celebrate, as they return to the pitch Friday night to take on Antelope Valley. Kickoff from Spirit Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
