Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cohen's Big Night Leads Spirit Past UAV

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - After returning home from a successful road trip, the OUAZ men's soccer team continued its momentum with an impressive home victory Friday night. The Spirit scored three goals in each half as they raced passed Antelope Valley, 6-1, in the team's first home game in September.

The Spirit scored three times in the first 15:03, getting goals from Kebba Jobe, Tinashe Simbo and Tom Cohen. Simbo's goal in the 9' was his first collegiate goal, and Cohen got assists on each of the first two scores.

Cohen was not done dishing the ball either, collecting assists on the first two goals of the second half. Jobe scored his second of the game just 28 seconds out of the break on a beautiful give-and-go, then Victor de La O deposited his second of the campaign in the 55'.

In all, Cohen finished with four assists, the most in a single game in program history. The previous record was three, which was accomplished by three different players during the 2019 season.

Joaquin Bermejillo rounded out the night's scoring with a laser from 35 yards out in the 71'. The Spirit finished with 13 shots on target while holding the Pioneers to three total shot attempts (two on target).

OUAZ had all of the game's corner kicks as well, getting all 13 on Friday evening. Antelope Valley's Angel Cruz made seven saves in his second start in as many days.

The Spirit will continue a grind of a schedule when they hit the road for an in-state matchup against Embry-Riddle on Tuesday. Kickoff from Prescott, Ariz. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
