Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Spirit Stare Down Adversity, Come Out Victorious Against BenU-Mesa

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ men's soccer team look drastically different on paper from its usual self on Thursday night. The wild non-conference matchup saw a forward excel in his first start at right back, and a freshman score his first career goal on his first ever touch, plus it featured the 19th-ranked Spirit taking home a 3-2 win.

For the second consecutive matchup against Benedictine-Mesa, OUAZ started quickly, as they got a goal from Victor de la O in the 8'. Just 23 seconds later the RedHawks tied it, as Logan Haricombe finished a tic-tac-toe play off the ensuing kickoff.

Freshman Titouan Desveaux gave OUAZ the lead with his first career goal in the 34' after a great feed from Miseal Moreno. While the Spirit took the lead into halftime, it was erased in the 55' thanks to BenU's Munachiso Ewuzie first of the season.

Tom Cohen provided the best play of the night, taking the ball quickly on a throw in and leading it on the feet of a wide-open Kebba Jobe. The breakaway chance was buried by Jobe in the 84', giving the newly-ranked Spirit a gritty win as the conference schedule approaches.

Both teams fired away from all over the field Thursday, combing for 28 shots. Each team was able to find the target often as well, as the Spirit had ten shots on target and the RedHawks with seven.

The Spirit will have the weekend off to prepare for Tuesday's road trip to Park-Gilbert. Kickoff from the Paloma Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
