Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cohen Scores Pair Late to Push Spirit in Victory

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - The OUAZ men's soccer team was together as a full unit for the first time in a couple weeks, and it took a half to shake the rust off. Once the 19th-ranked Spirit found its groove, they took complete control of the match and picked up a 2-0 win over Park-Gilbert on Tuesday night.

The match entered halftime tied at 0, and the shots favored OUAZ 5-3, but the Spirit came out with a higher intensity and pace in the second. OUAZ outshot the Buccaneers 13-0 in the final 45 minutes, but were still having a hard time finding the back of the net.

Tom Cohen finally broke the deadlock in the 81', scoring his own rebound after his initial header hit the crossbar. Cohen then scored again in the 87', as Christoph Seeger was able to get a good bounce to bounce toward Cohen, who put it home.

Cohen led the way for the Spirit in both shots (six) and shots on target (two). Four different players finished Tuesday with at least two shots, and seven players total recorded a shot attempt.

Angel Ramirez needed just one save to record his fifth shutout of the season. He now is tied for the single-season shutout record at OUAZ, a record set by Yuri Nascimento in 2019.

The Spirit will play in a scrimmage Thursday against Bethesda at home, but will not play a game that will count against its record until conference season. OUAZ will host its first GSAC match of the fall when they welcome in Menlo on September 30.
