Spirit Continue to Roll with Sweep of Redhawks

Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. – The perfect start to the season for the OUAZ women's volleyball team continued on Friday night with an impressive 3-0 sweep of Benedictine Mesa at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (5-0) faced little resistance from the visitors from across the valley in securing the 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 victory. The match only featured one tie and one lead change as the Spirit only trailed 1-0 in the third set.

It was another balanced offensive attack from the Spirit as they got five-plus kills from five different players in racking up a 43-26 advantage in kills overall. OUAZ hit above .324 in every set to finish the night at .366 with only nine hitting errors.

Kate Pestova once again led the way with 14 kills, including seven in the first set. Livia De Pra contributed in just about every way with eight kills on .471 hitting while adding a team-high 12 digs. She also tallied five service aces and two blocks.

In holding Benedictine Mesa (0-8) to .052 hitting – which includes a negative-.056 in the second set – OUAZ had nine blocks and 45 digs. The Spirit also posted six aces, with Valentina Trovato notching the sixth.

Avie Butsko and Chelsea Taylor had seven kills apiece, with Butsko getting five blocks and Taylor four. Brookly Rainer finished with five kills, and Trovato had ten digs.

Brianna Rivera had 11 kills to lead the Redhawks.

OUAZ returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Trinity International in Faith Arena at 1 p.m.
