Spirit Extend Winning Streak with 49-19 Win at Louisiana College

PINEVILLE, La. – In the program's first-ever visit to Louisiana, the 16th-ranked OUAZ football team welcomed SAC newcomer Louisiana College to the series with a 49-19 win at Wildcat Field.

OUAZ (4-0, 4-0 SAC) never trailed after scoring the first 14 points of the contest. They opened the scoring after Jaydon Brooks fumbled into the endzone, where Ian Zamudio recovered to complete the 17-yard scoring play.

After forcing a fumble on the ensuing Louisiana (0-5, 0-3) possession, Shamar Moreland capped an 11-play, 98-yard drive with a 7-yard rush for a 14-0 lead with 3:10 to play in the first quarter.

Following a Louisiana scoring drive, the Spirit took control of the game by scoring the next 35 points to build a 49-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. During the run, James Randolph III returned a blocked field goal 56 yards on the half's final play.

Moreland would score a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, with Jordan King taking a pass from Jack Graham 48 yards for the final score early in the fourth.

OUAZ tallied 27 first downs and 526 yards of total offense. They passed for 277 yards while picking up 249 yards in the ground at an average of 6.2 yards per rush attempt. The defense held Louisiana to 406 total yards. Both teams had three turnovers.

Moreland ran for 127 yards on 12 carries – at 10.6 yards per rush – and scored the four touchdowns. He also had one catch for 18 yards and 63 return yards for a total of 208 all-purpose yards.

Austin McCullough finished 16 of 33 for 226 yards and a touchdown. Graham was 2 of 3 for 51 yards and a touchdown.

OUAZ had 11 different receivers make a catch, with King and Zamudio leading the team with three catches each. King had a team-high 101 receiving yards.

David Jones Jr. and Brandon Tomerlin led the Spirit with eight tackles apiece. Jones added an interception and forced fumble. Seth Ham made three tackles for loss and one sack.

The Spirit will now get set for the annual contest against in-state rival Arizona Christian on October 2 at Spirit Field.
