Five Different Players Score in Season-Opening Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's soccer team put together another impressive season-opening performance, this time defeating the Park-Gilbert Buccaneers 5-0 on Friday night. It marks the fourth consecutive season-opening win in the program's history.

It did not take long for the Spirit to get the offense going, as freshman Mark Lydford scored his first career goal in the 10'. OUAZ held the one-goal lead for most of the half, until fellow freshman Jamaine Turner extended the lead to two in the 44' on a penalty kick.

The Spirit were not done after the break, as they tacked on three more before the end of the night. Christoph Seeger pushed the lead to three in the 59' off an excellent feed from Turner.

The Spirit's most experienced forward, Kebba Jobe, scored his first goal of the new campaign in the 68'. Tyson LaPord flashed excellence in the back half of last season, and shined again Friday, scoring one in the 74' off a beautiful feed from Jobe.

OUAZ fired 21 shots, 14 of them hitting the target. Goalkeeper Angel Ramirez made three saves for his fourth shutout in his last seven starts.

The Spirit will have a chance at its second win of the year when they host University of the Southwest (N.M.) on Thursday night. Kickoff from Spirit Field is scheduled for 8 p.m.
