Spirit Score Six in Regular Season Finale

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ women's soccer team had already clinched its bid to the GSAC Conference Game, but that did not stop them from an offensive explosion in the final game of the regular season. The Spirit got six goals from four different players in a 6-0 win over William Jessup on Thursday.

After failing to score in the first half hour of the game, the Spirit scored three goals in 8:58. Paige Murray Hernandez got the goal train started in the 31', then Saipress Jones tallied two in 5:22 to give her team a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Cassidi Calzaretta matched Jones's effort to start the second half, scoring two of her own in the 48' and the 55'. After spending the rest of the half playing the possession game, Abby Najera scored her first career goal in the 89' off a great corner from Kylee Bluemel.

The Spirit took control from start to finish, allowing just three shots (one on target), while taking 18 shots (ten on target). Chloe Gutierrez needed just one save for her second consecutive clean sheet.

OUAZ will have a week to prepare for the GSAC Conference Championship Game, scheduled for April 10. The Spirit will travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. to take on seventh-ranked Westmont next Saturday.
