Spirit Clinch GSAC East with Excellent All-Around Performance

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – For the second consecutive season, the OUAZ men's soccer team had to play in a winner-take-all conference matchup to end the regular season. This time is a trip to the GSAC Championship Game was on the line, and the Spirit came through in a big way on Thursday afternoon.

OUAZ got two goals in the first half, and added an insurance tally in the second to take down William Jessup 3-0 at Spirit Field. The win clinched the GSAC East division for the Spirit and a trip to the conference championship game.

The Spirit took advantage of a WJU team that had played less than 24 hours before, getting a goal from Samuel George on a brilliant individual effort in the 13'. Jordan Riley buried a great pass from Kebba Jobe in the 36' to give OUAZ a 2-0 lead into the half.

Tom Cohen added a goal to his earlier assist, giving his team a three goal cushion in the 53'. The Spirit held off a late push from the Warriors, but did not allow a shot on target in the second half.

OUAZ took 11 shots in each half, and finished the game with ten shots on goal. The Warriors were only able to get two shots on target, and Angel Ramirez stopped both for his third shutout of the season.

The team is now set to host Westmont in the conference championship game on April 17. Stay tuned to ouazspirit.com for the latest information on the GSAC Championship match.
