OUAZ to Host SAGU in Season's Final Home Game

OUAZ FOOTBALL GAME 4 NOTES
• The 23rd-ranked OUAZ football team will play its final home game of this abbreviated spring season on Saturday when they welcome Southwestern Assemblies of God University to Surprise.

• Kickoff at Spirit Field is scheduled for 11 a.m. with the gates opening at 10 a.m.

• Tickets for the game are SOLD OUT.

• The team will recognize its seniors before the game.

SPIRIT TIDBITS
• OUAZ enters the game with a 2-1 record both overall and in Sooner Athletic Conference games. They are coming off a 34-15 win over Wayland Baptist at Spirit Field last Saturday.

• The Spirit has recorded a 10-4 record all-time when playing at Spirit Field and they snapped a two-game home losing streak with last week's win.

• Riding a two-game winning streak, OUAZ is now 9-3 all-time when playing as a ranked team.

• So far this season, there have been 38 players make their first appearances on the field for OUAZ. There have also been 14 players that earned a start for the Spirit for the first time.

NATIONAL POLL
• OUAZ moved up one spot to No. 23 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released on Monday. 

• The Spirit has now been ranked in 14 consecutive polls dating back to the first regular season poll of the 2019 season. That is the 15th-longest active streak of consecutive polls in the NAIA. During that time, OUAZ has been ranked as high as No. 12 on October 28, 2019.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
• With three straight games scoring at least 34 points, the Spirit moved to 17th in the NAIA by scoring 34.7 points per game. OUAZ has scored at least 30 points in 21 of the 25 games in the program's history.

• After putting up 567 yards against Wayland Baptist, OUAZ is now third in the NAIA with an average of 521.7 yards per game. That was the 13th time in program history the team recorded at least 500 yards of offense.

• The Spirit moved up to second in the nation in passing yards per game with an average of 342.3. The offense has thrown for over 300 yards in every game this season, with a season-high 383 against Wayland last Saturday.

• OUAZ is also rushing for 179.3 yards per game to lead the Sooner Athletic Conference and that average is good for 23rd in the NAIA. The Spirit have rushed for 263 and 184 yards in the past two games.

• OUAZ set school records with 107 plays and 32 first downs at OPSU on March 13. The team is averaging 25.0 first downs per game which ranks fourth in the nation. The Spirit is 49th nationally in converting 34.6 percent on third down.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
• After holding Wayland Baptist to just 15 points, the Spirit moved up to 56th in the nation in scoring defense with an average of 29.3 points allowed per game.

• OUAZ opponents are averaging 413.7 yards of total offense per game. Two of the three opponents – Arizona Christian (527) and Wayland Baptist (486) – totaled over 450 yards of offense against the Spirit.

• The Spirit are allowing 241.7 passing yards per game after WBU threw for 378 yards last Saturday.

• While they have given up some yards, the OUAZ defense is 14th in the country by holding opponents to a 99.8 passer efficiency rating.

• On the ground, OUAZ opponents are running for 179.7 yards per game with all three opponents gaining at least 100 yards rushing.

• OUAZ has still been able to get to the quarterback where they have tallied 10 sacks and rank 14th in the NAIA by getting 3.3 sacks per game. They have at least three sacks in every game this season.

SCOUTING SAGU
• SAGU will travel to Surprise for the first time with a 3-2 overall record and 2-1 in the SAC. They are coming off a 23-20 loss against Arizona Christian last Saturday at home.

• The Lions are 3-0 on the road this season with two of those wins coming this spring. That includes a 31-20 win at Langston that snapped Langston's 16-game home winning streak in conference games.

• SAGU is scoring 29.6 points per game while giving up 23.8 points per game. They are 12th in the nation by averaging 3.4 sacks per game.

• Jordan Barlow averages 246.0 passing yards per game to rank 10th in the NAIA. He is 21st nationally with a 141.6 passer rating.

SPIRIT AND LIONS HISTORY
• OUAZ and SAGU have split two meetings all-time with both being played in Texas. After losing at SAGU in 2018, the Spirit secured a 33-14 win last season.

• In the two meetings, SAGU has outscored OUAZ by a combined score of 70-67.

SERIES NOTES
• This is the first time the teams will play at Spirit Field.

• The 56 points scored by SAGU in the 2018 game are the third-most ever allowed by the Spirit defense.

OUAZ HISTORY
• The is the first time in program history the Spirit has entered a game with a 2-1 record.

• OUAZ is 2-0 all-time in the team's fourth game of the season. This marks the third straight year they will play the season's fourth game at home.
