Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ochoa Buries OT Winner to Grab First Place in GSAC East

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Heading into Tuesday afternoon, the OUAZ men's soccer team had scored the first goal only twice this season. Its record in those games was 2-1, and they can add another to that win total as the Spirit completed an exciting come-from-behind overtime win at rival Arizona Christian.

Despite giving up the game's first goal in the 11' and trailing most of regulation, the Spirit controlled the game. They had 19 shot attempts and seven shots on goal, more than double the Firestorm in both categories.

OUAZ dominated the corner kicks, getting all ten in the game. The team got five in the first half, and the one the Spirit got in overtime helped start the pressure in the ACU end that eventually led to the game-winner.

With time winding down, the Spirit were fouled just outside of the 18-yard box, setting up a free kick. Victor De La O sent it into Mauricio Ochoa back post, finding Kebba Jobe, who tied the game with 4:09 left.

The Spirit kept the pressure going from the kickoff of the extra period. Armando Cacho sent a pass toward the right post for a streaking Ochoa, who got the keeper to go down and slipped it over the goal line to end the afternoon.

The win gives OUAZ sole possession of first place in the GSAC East, and the Spirit can put themselves in control of the second half of conference play with a win over William Jessup. Kickoff from Rocklin on Saturday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Arizona time.
