Spirit Drop Crucial Conference Game in OT

The OUAZ men's soccer team played in its second consecutive overtime game Saturday, but fell on the wrong side of a 1-0 loss at William Jessup. The defeat ended the quest to remain undefeated in conference play.

The pivotal GSAC East matchup stayed scoreless through 90 minutes, though there were plenty of chances. The teams combined for 18 shots (11 on goal) in regulation, and both keepers made nine saves in the second half.

Overtime lasted only 47 seconds, as Paul Anderson scored his fifth goal of the season to give Jessup the important win in the final game of the conference schedule's first half.

Both teams are tied at 3-1 in GSAC play, and OUAZ dropping the tiebreaker for the moment puts the Warriors in control. The two schools will meet again in Surprise on April 1, the last day of the GSAC season.

Samuel George led the way for the Spirit, as he had four shot attempts, three of which were on target. Seba Ferreira made five saves on the afternoon, his third game with at least four saves this season.

The Spirit will start the second half of the conference schedule when the team makes its first trip to Life Pacific. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
