Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Spirit Fall in OT for Second Straight Game

The two highest scoring teams in the GSAC kicked off the second half of play in San Dimas, Calif. on Wednesday, and the game went the opposite direction. OUAZ and Life Pacific played to a 0-0 tie through 90 minutes, before Yerry Mendez scored 3:12 into the extra period to give the Warriors the 1-0 victory. It marked the third straight game the Spirit have played in overtime, and its second straight 1-0 OT loss.

It was an evenly played match in the first half, but the Spirit turned it up after the break. In the second half, OUAZ took 11 of its 12 shots, and all seven of its shots on goal as well. Life Pacific's Johnnie White stopped all seven of those shots in the final 45.

Tom Cohen took four shots for the Spirit, but only two were on target. Victor De La O led OUAZ in shots on goal, with all three of his attempts on target.

It was a physical game all day, especially in the first half. The teams committed nine of the games 16 fouls in the first, and combined for three fouls in the 3:12 of overtime played. Mendez was the only player to earn a card, getting a caution in the 70'.

The Spirit will be entering its most important stretch of the season, as they currently sit in third in the GSAC East. They will most likely have to win out to have a chance at the conference championship game, and that journey starts next Wednesday when they travel to face The Master's in Santa Clarita, Calif.
