OUAZ Closes Regular Season with Postseason in Reach

The OUAZ women's volleyball team closes out its regular season this week with three matches, including a pair of GSAC matches. The Spirit will start the week by heading across town to face Arizona Christian on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Glendale/Peoria Family YMCA. They then welcome Wayland Baptist to Faith Arena on Friday at 6 p.m.

SPECTATOR POLICY
Arizona Christian is not allowing visiting spectators into its home events.

A limited number of tickets for Friday's home match will be available at OUAZspirit.com/tickets starting Tuesday at 6 p.m.

HOW TO FOLLOW
All three matches this week will be broadcast live on the OUAZ Digital Network. Fans can view the game online at OUAZSpirit.com/digital or on the NAIA Network app on Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku devices.

ACU will produce the two matches played at their facility.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ enters the final week of the regular season with an 8-5 overall record. They are 6-2 in GSAC played and tied with The Master's for first in the GSAC East division. The Spirit will win the division and earn the automatic invite to the NAIA National Championship by winning both of this week's matches at ACU.

On the season, OUAZ is 5-4 in all matches played away from home and 5-3 in road matches. They have split each of the last two conference series they have played.

OUAZ currently ranks second in the GSAC and 38th in the NAIA with an average of 12.71 kills per set. They hit that average by hitting .170 as a team having been above .200 hitting in a match four times this season. The Spirit are fifth in the conference and 31st nationally at 1.94 service aces per set.

In holding the opposition to .157 hitting, OUAZ is second in the GSAC at 1.88 blocks per set. They also average 19.27 digs per set to rank 23rd in the nation.

OUAZ LEADERS
Kate Pestova leads the Spirit with 191 kills and she has been in double figures in all 13 matches the team has played. Her 3.90 kills per set leads the GSAC and ranks 19th in the NAIA. Pestova has also recorded eight matches with double-digit digs and she averages 3.06 digs per set.

Cristal Carrizoza has a team-best 256 assists and averages 5.22 assists per set where she ranks seventh in the GSAC. Sierra Dominguez has tallied 245 assists at a 5.00 assists per set rate to sit eighth in the conference.

Carrizoza also is the team leader in service aces with 28. She has tallied multiple aces in four straight matches, including a school-record 10 at William Jessup on March 10. She is now second in the GSAC and 17th in the NAIA by averaging 0.57 aces per set.

Valentina Trovato is the team leader in digs with 262 and her 5.46 digs per set ranks second in the conference and 28th nationally. Trovato has recorded 10-plus digs in eight straight matches and 10 times in total.

Chelsea Taylor leads the Spirit with 49 total blocks and she leads the GSAC at 1.00 blocks per set. Taylor has posted multiple blocks in a match 10 times this season and gone for at least four blocks seven times.

SERIES NOTES
OUAZ and Arizona Christian have split eight all-time meetings. The Spirit won both of the previous meetings this season to enter the week on a two-match winning streak in the series. ACU is 3-0 when playing at home in the series.

The Spirit will play Wayland Baptist for the first time when the teams meet on Friday.
