First Loss Comes at the Hands of (13)San Diego Christian

OUAZ men's tennis began to establish itself as a GSAC contender this Spring, but ran into the conference's top team on Friday afternoon. #13 San Diego Christian rolled into Surprise and left with a 5-0 victory, handing the Spirit its first loss of the season.

The Spirit kept the doubles point close, but ultimately could not win one of three pairs matches. Dong Hyun Kim/Grzegorz Rudnicki and Alan Vasquez/Michael Shin both lost 6-4, and Michael Loyd/Austin Todd dropped 6-3.

No singles matches went more than two sets, but the Spirit battled hard in most matches. Rudnicki lost the first set 7-6 against Ivan Smith, and was up 4-2 in the second before the match was called as the Hawks had wrapped up the dual.

The Gardiner brothers played for the first time this season, and both had an impressive showing. After losing the first set 6-0, Mick Gardiner locked in, but ultimately lost the second set 7-5.

 The Spirit will start the second half of the conference schedule next week with a trip to Southern California. OUAZ sits second in the standings, and will get one more shot at San Diego Christian in the chase for the regular season crown.
