OUAZ Makes Season's First Road Trip to Face OPSU on Saturday

OUAZ FOOTBALL GAME 2 NOTES
• The 16th-ranked OUAZ football team will make its first road trip of the season this weekend as the Spirit head to Goodwell, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday, March 13.

• Carl Wooten Field at Anchor D. Stadium is the site for the game that will kickoff at noon (CST) / 11 a.m. (MST).

• Tickets are currently available for the game through the OPSU ticket website at OPSUAggies.com/tickets.

HOW TO FOLLOW
• OPSU, in conjunction with PTCI, will broadcast the game live on YouTube. The link for the stream is available at OUAZSpirit.com/watch.

• The broadcast can also be viewed on the YouTube OTT app available on most smart TVs and streaming devices.

SPIRIT TIDBITS
• OUAZ will make the trip with an 0-1 record after falling to No. 24 Arizona Christian last Saturday at Spirit Field. It is the first time in program history the Spirit lost its season opener.

• In the program's history, OUAZ has a 7-3 record in road games and they have won seven of the past eight road games they have played.

• OUAZ is now 7-3 all-time when playing as a ranked team.

• In the game against ACU, a total of 21 players played in a game at OUAZ for the first time. There were also 11 players that made their first start for the Spirit.

OFFENSIVE POWER
• The season opener saw the Spirit gain 425 yards of total offense. It was the 21st time in the 22 games in program history they had gained at least 400 yards of offense.

• That yardage has the Spirit currently ranked 17th in the NAIA in total offense.

• OUAZ gained 334 of those yards in the passing game which ranks the team third in the NAIA in passing offense.

• Saturday was the 17th game in program history the team had thrown for at least 300 yards in a game.

• The Spirit finished with 91 rushing yards against ACU. That is the team's lowest rushing total since game four of the 2019 season.

• OUAZ wasn't able to extend drives in the opener, going just 5 of 15 on third-down. They were also 0 for 2 on fourth-down chances.

DEFENSE DOES ITS JOB
• Defensively, OUAZ gave up 527 yards of offense on Saturday. That was the second straight game the Spirit opponent had gained at least 500 yards of offense.

• OUAZ allowed 254 rushing yards and 273 passing yards to ACU.

• Despite the yardage, the Spirit held a 97.2 passing efficiency defense rating which ranks the team 13th in the country in the category.

• The Spirit also tallied three sacks to give them at least one sack in nine of the past 10 games dating back to last season.


SCOUTING PANHANDLE STATE
• Oklahoma Panhandle State enters Saturday's game with a 1-5 overall record and 1-1 in Sooner games. The Aggies are 1-1 in the spring after going 0-4 during the fall season.

• They are 1-1 at home this season, including a 25-18 win over Wayland Baptist on February 20.

• OPSU averages 16.2 points and 260.1 yards of offense per game. They are allowing 32.3 points and 421.3 yards per game to their opponents.

• D'Quan Charles ranks ninth in the NAIA by averaging 2.1 tackles-for-loss per game. Warren Dillon makes 10.6 tackles per game to place 12th in the NAIA.

SPIRIT AND AGGIES HISTORY
• OUAZ and OPSU have split two previous meetings with each winning on the road.

• Last season, the Spirit claimed a 47-7 win in Oklahoma with 455 yards of offense.

SERIES NOTES
• This is the second straight season that OUAZ will travel to Panhandle after hosting the Aggies at Spirit Field during the 2018 campaign.

• OUAZ will face OPSU as a ranked team for the second straight game. Last season, the Spirit was ranked No. 20 when the teams played.

OUAZ HISTORY
• This is the first time that OUAZ will enter a game with an 0-1 record.

• The Spirit is 1-1 all-time in the team's second game of the season, winning in 2019 at home against Western New Mexico.

• In the first two years of the program, the Spirit have a 1-1 record in road openers. That includes a 48-7 win at Doane to open the 2019 season.
