The first six games for OUAZ softball did not have the results any member of the Spirit were hoping for, but they have an opportunity to pull themselves closer to .500 this weekend in Texas. OUAZ will play five games in three days at the Our Lady of the Lake Nationwide Classic in San Antonio.

The Spirit will play two games each against host OLLU and Houston-Victoria on Friday and Saturday before wrapping up the weekend against Bellevue on Sunday morning. It will mark the first time the program has played in the state of Texas.

OUAZ has played only one of its opponents prior to this weekend, as they matched up with Bellevue during the 2018 season. Bellevue picked up an 8-3 win during the Tucson Invitational on March 17 of that year.

Despite a tough start at the plate as a team, Andraya Rhinehart and Heliana Bueno have not lost a step from the 2020 season. Rhinehart is hitting .333 as the team's leadoff hitter in the first six games, and has scored a team-high four runs. Bueno is hitting .300, and her two walks over the past week have helped push her on-base percentage to .417.

Hits have been hard to come by for Mashayla Beltran, but she has been getting on base in other ways. Her OBP% is at .500, despite a sub-.200 batting average, as she has walked six times and was hit by a pitch. Beltran has scored three times, tied for second most on the team with Bueno.

Briana Tucker's defense behind the plate was excellent in the first six games, recording five assists and allowing only one passed ball. Avery Bohn has been the defensive anchor on the right side of the infield, avoiding any errors and stealing a few outs away from fast baserunners during the six-game homestand.
