SURPRISE, ARIZ. – For two straight season, the OUAZ men's soccer team dominated opponents in the season opener. That trend continued on Wednesday, as the Spirit put together a 3-0 victory over Bethesda University at Spirit Field.
Jordan Riley dealt with injury during the 2019 season, but looked healthy and better than ever as he scored two goals and put three shots on target. Riley buried his first goal in the 7', and added his second in the 27'.
Sandwiched in between Riley's two tallies was Victor De La O's marker in the 19'. De La O also picked up an assist on Riley's second goal, and finished with four shot attempts.
Seba Ferreira needed to make only one save to secure a clean sheet in his first game as a member of the Spirit. The Fairleigh Dickinson University transfer is the first OUAZ player in team history to record a shutout in his first game with the program.
The Spirit finished with 21 total shots (nine on target), as De La O, Riley and
Kebba Jobe each had four. Bethesda's lone shot on target was the only shot they got off during the 90 minutes.
OUAZ will travel to Texas, gearing up for a four game road trip starting February 8. Next Monday will see the Spirit match up with Mary Hardin-Baylor with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Arizona time.
