Jessup Takes Series Opener with Second Half Performance

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The OUAZ men's basketball team saw an eight point second half lead disappear as William Jessup rallied back for an 86-81 win on Friday evening in the first of a two game series to be played at Warrior Arena.

OUAZ (10-5, 5-4 GSAC) was unable to slow the inside scoring of William Jessup (10-4, 7-2) as the Warriors held a 44-22 advantage in points in the paint while shooting 53.2 percent from the field. OUAZ shot 49.0 percent and hit 10 of 19 from beyond the arc to keep in interesting.

Jessup had opened a 10-point cushion with 7:39 to play by completing an 18-4 run over a six-minute span of action. The Spirit would chip away at the deficit and were within 83-81 on a Marcus Williams 3-pointer with 15.4 seconds on the clock. After WJU split a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession, OUAZ committed turnover before getting off a shot to potentially tie the game.

The Spirit finished with 19 assists and 16 turnovers. They were outrebounded 36-26 and allowed 13 offensive rebounds. OUAZ also converted 80.8 percent (21 of 26) at the foul line.
