Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

George Nets a Pair for Conference-Opening Win

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – Playing an unfamiliar opponent is never easy, especially one that has scored 13 goals over its first two games in program history. The OUAZ men's soccer team had the task of hosting Life Pacific for the Warriors first-ever GSAC match, and the Spirit brought the offensive punch on Wednesday afternoon.

Samuel George scored twice, once on a penalty kick, and Mauricio Ochoa scored the eventual game-winner as OUAZ defeated Life Pacific 3-2 at Spirit Field. It is the second consecutive season the Spirit have started GSAC play with a home win.

Life Pacific's Benji Asabi started the scoring with a sneaky laser in the 26', putting the Spirit behind early. OUAZ's Misael Moreno crashed the net hard and was wiped out by Warriors goalkeeper Brock Hendrickson, who eventually was issued a yellow card. George converted the ensuing penalty kick to draw the Spirit even.

OUAZ came out of the half firing, jumping to a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals in first 5:25 of the second half. Asabi converted a penalty kick of his own in the 66', but despite a solid push late, that would be the closest the Warriors would come.

It was a physical game all afternoon, as a total of 27 fouls were assessed and three yellow cards were issued. The converted penalty kick attempts were the only PK opportunities on the afternoon.

The Spirit will wait over a week before hitting the field again, when they host The Master's next Thursday at Spirit Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Arizona time.
