De’laCerda Beats Buzzer to Give Spirit Sweep of Hawks

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's basketball team got a jumper from Josiah De'laCerda with 0.2 seconds to play to defeat Dan Diego Christian 75-73 in Golden State Athletic Conference play at Faith Arena on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was even at 73-73 with 1.0 seconds to play when Kolten Hitt delivered a pass from the far sideline to De'laCerda in the paint for the jumper just before time expired. Hitt had a steal on the previous defensive possession to set up the final play.
 
Despite leading for most of the game, OUAZ (10-4, 5-3) trailed by two with 3:24 remaining after San Diego Christian (1-13, 1-7) went on a 10-0 run. The rest of the game saw seven lead changes and one tie before the game-winning basket.

De'laCerda led the Spirit with 20 points for his third 20-point outing of the season. He made 9 of 13 shots and grabbed seven rebounds with two blocked shots and two steals.

OUAZ shot 52.7 percent as a team and they hit 9 of 23 from beyond the arc. They assisted on 22 of the 29 made baskets while committing 20 turnovers. San Diego Christian ended the game at 49.2 percent shooting after making 61.3 percent in the second half.

Marcus Williams and Kam Malbrough added 12 points apiece for the Spirit. Williams made four threes and Malbrough led the way with nine assists. Devin Collins added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Teyden Gause led the Hawks with 18 points.

OUAZ will close out its regular season with a two-game series at William Jessup on February 26-27 in Rocklin, Calif.
