Spirit Snap Slide Behind 36 from Malbrough

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Looking to snap its season-long three-game losing streak, the OUAZ men's basketball team put together one of the most efficient games in program history to secure a 98-74 win over San Diego Christian on Monday afternoon at Faith Arena.
 
OUAZ (9-4, 4-3 GSAC) shot a season-high 61.5 percent from the field – second-best percentage in team history – and they made 11 of 21 (52.4 percent) from beyond the arc. The Spirit recorded 23 assists to just 12 turnovers with 52 points in the paint.
 
Kam Malbrough was the leader of the offensive attack with 36 points and seven assists. He made 14 of 17 shots and hit all six of his 3-point attempts. The 36 points are the most by an OUAZ player this season and sixth-most for a game in school history.
 
OUAZ had its lead up to 14 in the first half before San Diego Christian (1-12, 1-6) went on a 19-4 run spanning the two halves to tie the game at 51-51 with 16:48 to play. The Spirit then ignited a 20-4 run over the next 5:42 of action with 11 straight points to take back control of the game.
 
The Hawks ended the game shooting 44.3 percent and with a 38-34 edge in rebounds. They got 18 points from 14 offensive rebounds but were hurt by their 5 of 18 shooting from three.
 
Josiah De'laCerda added 12 points and Quentin Guliford had 10 for the Spirit. Devin Collins grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
 
Teyden Gause led the Hawks with 21 points.
 
The two teams will conclude this two-game series on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Faith Arena.
