Spirit Fall to No. 5 Firestorm in Return to Action

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Playing for the first time in nearly three weeks, the OUAZ men's basketball team couldn't slow the high powered offense of No. 5 Arizona Christian in a 102-70 loss on Thursday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (8-3, 3-2 GSAC) hung around for most of the first half – although they never held a lead – and were within 40-38 with 2:47 to play before halftime. Arizona Christian (19-2, 5-0) then scored 33 of the game's next 39 points over a nine-minute span of game time to put the game out of reach.

During the decisive burst, ACU hit 11 of 13 shots to propel them to 66.7 percent for the game. They held the Spirit to 41.0 percent from the field and 9 of 27 from beyond the arc.

Josiah De'laCerda returned to action and led the team in scoring with 14 points off the bench. Kam Malbrough added 12 points and Dane Maggii finished with 10.

Marcus Williams and Malbrough had five assists apiece to help the Spirit to 19 total assists and while committing just 12 turnovers.

Each team finished with 18 points off turnovers and OUAZ tallied 15 fast break points.

All five ACU starters scored in double figures with De'Ron Kyle leading the team with 20.

These two teams will close out the season series on Saturday when they meet at 2 p.m. at the ACU Events Center in Glendale.
