Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ramirez's Clean Sheet Propels Spirit to Road Trip Split

Two days after playing in an offensive showcase, the OUAZ men's soccer team found themselves in a defensive struggle on the road against Hardin-Simmons. The game remained tied at zero until the Spirit's Mauricio Ochoa scored the game's only goal in the 73', giving OUAZ a 1-0 win to split the opening road trip of the season.

Angel Ramirez shined in his OUAZ debut, making seven saves for his first clean sheet this season. He made the biggest save of the year so far, denying a shot heading toward the bottom right corner in the 90' to preserve his team's victory.

The Cowboys got most of the offensive chances, taking 14 shots and sending seven of them on target. Ochoa had three of the Spirit's four shots on target, with Samuel George picking up the other. Jordan Riley assisted on Ochoa's goal, tying him with the team lead in points with five.

The contest became heated late, as there were four yellow cards handed out in a 20-minute stretch during the second half. Both squads combined for 19 fouls on the afternoon.

The Spirit will return home for the remainder of the week as they gear up for another trip to Texas starting next Monday. OUAZ will see Texas Wesleyan on Monday, then travel to Southwestern Assemblies of the God for the final matchup of conference play next Wednesday.
