Spirit Snap Skid with Win at Corban

SALEM, Ore. – The OUAZ men's basketball team opened its weekend in Oregon with an 87-71 win over Corban on Friday afternoon at the Corban Classic.

Entering on a two-game losing streak, OUAZ (5-2) used a 21-9 run in the first half to open a seven-point advantage. The Spirit then took control of the game with an 18-2 run that included the final 11 points of the first half and ended with a 50-30 lead on the first hoop of the second half.

Six different players scored in double figures for the Spirit, including all five starters, and they shot 53.3 percent from the field. OUAZ went 6 of 19 from beyond the arc and made 17 of 20 at the foul line while scoring 48 points in the paint.

Kam Malbrough led the team with 17 points on 5 of 10 shooting. Josiah De'laCerda added 15 points, and Keshawn Bruner scored 14. Devin Collins added a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Corban (4-4) shot 40.6 percent overall and 6 of 22 from three. The Warriors committed 11 turnovers that turned into 22 Spirit points.

OUAZ is back in action on Saturday when they face No. 19 Lewis-Clark State at 1 p.m. (AZ) for the Corban Classic title.
