Spirit Advance to Final Site with Second Half Rally

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – For its first appearance in the NAIA National Championship, the 25th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team is making the most of its opportunity. Just over 36 hours after reaching the Opening Round Final, OUAZ shocked No. 5 St. Thomas (Fla.) 3-2 to punch its ticket to the Final Site in Decatur, Alabama.

St. Thomas (14-1-2) – the Miami Gardens Bracket No. 1 seed – scored twice in the first 37 minutes and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. OUAZ pulled one back in the 51st minute as Tom Cohen put a shot into the upper right corner. Less than 30 seconds later, OUAZ (13-4-1) equalized when Tonny Temple poked in a chip from Cohen.

The Bobcats would have three scoring chances turned away by OUAZ keeper Angel Ramirez the rest of regulation that allowed the game to get to overtime. STU then had two more shots off target to open the extra period before Cohen struck again for the Spirit in the 97th minute to send the Spirit into the next round.

Cohen finished with two goals in a game for the fourth time this season. He scored on both of his shot attempts as the Spirit had just five shots in the game.

Ramirez picked up the win in goal with three saves.

OUAZ will now make its first appearance at the NAIA National Championship Final Site. They will learn their opponent later this evening when the NAIA releases the bracket.
