OUAZ Drops GSAC Opener at San Diego Christian

EL CAJON, Calif. – The OUAZ women's basketball team began its weekend trip to California with a 66-51 loss at San Diego Christian in the GSAC opener for both teams on Thursday evening.

Marlee Johnson led OUAZ (1-5, 0-1 GSAC) with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting. She was the only Spirit player in double figures while knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and posting a team-best three assists.

The Spirit shot just 22.2 percent as a team and hit 6 of 22 from beyond the arc. They scored 19 points from the 18 San Diego Christian (3-3, 1-0) turnovers.

Sedona Anderson added nine points off the bench, and she tied Virginia Edmondson for the team lead with eight rebounds.

The game was pretty even for much of the first half and was tied at 17-17 at 5:54 of the second quarter. The Hawks then went on a 17-6 run that extended into the third quarter, and the Spirit was unable to get closer than seven the rest of the game.

Maddison Zugna scored 22 points to lead three Hawks in double figures.

OUAZ now heads to Fullerton, California, where they will face Hope International on Saturday at 1 p.m. (AZ).
