Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Spirit Win 13-9 to Force Decisive Game Three on Friday

IRVINE, Calif. – Needing a win to extend the NAIA Championship Series versus Westcliff to a decisive game three, the OUAZ men's water polo team got hot in the fourth quarter to do just that with a 13-9 decision.

Leading 7-6 after three quarters, OUAZ scored six times in the final period to even the series and a win apiece. Jonathan Wong scored three of his four goals in the decision quarter, including the game's last two goals.

The Spirit took advantage of power-play situations, scoring on three of their nine opportunities while holding the Warriors scoreless in nine tries. That allowed OUAZ to overcome the 36-31 edge in shots from Westcliff.

While Wong led the Spirit with four goals, the team also got a pair of goals from Arnaud Parmentier, James Martin, Roland Mantecon, and Garrett Davis. Anthony Vargas added the other Spirit tally.

Clay Gyde was solid in goal with 11 saves to earn the win.

With the series now even, OUAZ and Westcliff will play for the title of the NAIA Championship Series on Friday at noon (AZ).
