Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Spirit Win Third Straight to Open Season

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's basketball team remained perfect on the season after picking up a 90-70 win over SAGU American Indian College on Monday night at Faith Arena. With the win, OUAZ (3-0) has now won its first three games of the season for a second straight year.

After putting together a 14-0 run early in the first half to build a 10-point lead, the Spirit remained comfortably in front the rest of the night.  That lead would hover around ten for most of the second half before the Spirit used a 14-2 burst to double up the advantage to lead to the final margin.

OUAZ shot 45.5 percent from the floor and hit 12 of 33 from beyond the arc. They were able to take advantage of 16 SAGU turnovers by turning them into 22 points while adding 24 fast break points.

Jayce Catchings led all players with 24 points in 25 minutes off the bench. He made 6 of 8 on threes while adding four rebounds and three assists. Keshawn Bruner added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Kolten Hitt and Kam Malbrough scored ten points apiece.

SAGU got 17 points from Ryan Davis.

The Spirit will now head to southern California, where they will open GSAC play this weekend with a pair of games. That begins on Thursday against San Diego Christian at the Salvation Army of El Cajon.
