Offense Leads No. 20 Spirit to Home Win

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Using one of its better offensive outputs of the season, No. 20 OUAZ completed the first half of the conference season with a 3-1 win over San Diego Christian on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (15-2, 8-1 GSAC) had three players record double-digit kills in the 25-13, 23-25, 25-18, 25-12 victory. They had at least 12 kills in each set and had 16 and 15 kills in the second and fourth sets, respectively. In total, the Spirit totaled 57 kills on .270 hitting.

Kate Pestova led the way with 16 kills in hitting .286. Brooklyn Rainer finished with a career-high 12 kills to hit .281, while Avie Butsko hit .308 with 11 kills.

While they racked up the 57-37 edge in kills, OUAZ really controlled all aspects of the match. They forced San Diego Christian (10-5, 5-4) into 27 hitting errors and held the Hawks to .064 hitting. That was helped by the Spirit posting seven blocks and 76 digs. They also finished with eight service aces.

Kahea A'ea and Valentina Trovato led the OUAZ defense with 15 digs apiece. Cristal Carrizoza added 13 digs, 40 assists, and two aces. Eve Rodriguez had 11 digs, with Livia De Pra recording seven kills and four aces.

Isabella Marshall led the Hawks with ten kills.

The win keeps the Spirit alone atop the GSAC standings at the halfway point of the season. They will begin the second half on Wednesday when they host Arizona Christian in Faith Arena at 6 p.m.
